Master of Integrative Biology and Physiology

M2 Marine Biology and Bioresources

SPECIALTY DIRECTORS: PATRICK CORMIER AND ERIC QUEINNEC

Presentation

This specialty is designed to provide students with fundamental and applied training in integrative biology based on marine organisms

It accords considerable importance to research, the learning of concepts and the development of methods and techniques widely used in laboratories.

It also includes a specific professionalization option based on the high-level expertise of Breton companies in the domain of biotechnologies.

An international M2 course (PIM), “The Biology of Marine Organisms” is proposed in partnership with la Pontifica Universidad Catolica de Chile (Santiago, Chile).

Contact: yves.desdevises@sorbonne-universite.fr (yves.desdevises @ upmc.fr) and laurence.besseau@sorbonne-universite.fr (laurence.besseau @ upmc.fr)

The training for this specialty takes place at three types of site:

- Sorbonne University - Pierre and Marie Curie Campus - Paris

-  Three marine stations : Roscoff, Villefranche sur Mer, Banyuls sur Mer

- The Breton partner universities : UBO (Université Bretagne Occidentale, West Brittany University) and UBS (Université Bretagne Sud, South Brittany University).

Objectives of the specialty:

  • To understand the concepts and mechanisms governing the functioning of marine organisms at different scales (from the organism to the cell or molecule).
  • To understand the integrative biology approaches that can be used to address primordial aspects of the functional biology of organisms (-omics, physiological, evolutionary, cellular and molecular approaches).
  • To master the principal methods for studying and/or analyzing marine organisms and the features specific to them.

MASTERS 2 - SEMESTER 1 (M2S3): ACADEMIC OR PROFESSIONALIZATION OPTION

The course units for M2S3 are described in the booklet. Students also spend six months on placement in a laboratory or company, in France or abroad. Certain Breton companies have agreed to host students on placement.

Masters 2 - semester 2 (M2S4): 30 ECTS

A six-month placement in a laboratory or company, in France or abroad.
